How to make the best of your figure part 2

Before we go straight down to business with measuring etc. next week, we’ll have a little briefing about the do’s and don’ts of the 5 major body types we talked about last week. Of course most of you will not fit perfect into one of these types, maybe you are a mix of two of them or even three. Nonetheless it’s good to have an overview, into which of the 5 main types you fit to know where to put the focus on in general. I introduced you last week to my five different body types: vase-, candle-, wineglass-, hourglass-, and champagne flute shape. Now we will go a little more into details of what is the main goal of elision, what suits them and what not.   Let’s start with the most common, the vase shape: The vase wears its weight around the hips and has a sleek upper body, mostly narrow shoulders and a small bust. The main goal here is to draw the attention to the upper body, to the slim waist, the beautiful flat belly and to create a counterweight to the hips by accentuating the shoulders and the bust area.

Bodyshape Vase

A very common variation is a vase shape with wider hip area, slim waist and small breasts, but sporty or “normal” shoulders. Here it’s also about pulling the attention to the upper body part with the small waist. But it’s not necessary to accentuate the shoulders, for example with shoulder pads, embroideries and scoop-necks etc. To create a smooth silhouette its good to give the small boobs a little push-up, maybe by such a bra, ruffles or pleats in that area etc.   The next body type we talk about today is the candle shape. As our by social and media characterized beau ideal, there is actually not much to worry about, you almost can wear everything. If you want to create a more feminine shape, you should try to create a waist for example with a waist belt or the new peplum tops and jackets. If you wear oversize on the upper body be aware of creating a counter weight at the low range, otherwise you run into danger to look like a big fluffy ball on two toothpicks. Here are some tips you can take advantage of:

Bodyshape candle

Often seen is also the variation of a candle shape with big boobs, real or fake. Here it would be wise to accent the butt, buy patched pockets, decorative elements etc. to avoid a silhouette that looks tilting forward.   Let’s talk about the wine glass shape now. As you are wearing your weight around the belly, it’s all about bringing the attention down to your lean legs by colourful pants, tight skirts etc.. And up to your face and your décolleté by beautiful earrings and necklaces. Avoid drawing attention to your mid section.

Bodyshape Wineglass

If your legs are not that sleek, stay away from drawing attention to them, focus on your face and décolleté and try to underline the vertical line. Wear top and bottom in same mute colours and wear a longer jacket on top in a different shade, leave it open. That stretches.     Now we are coming to the hourglass shape. Lucky girl! Your body is well proportioned. Draw the attention to your sleek midsection and just avoid bringing you proportions out of balance by underlining one area to much. Bodyshape hourglass   Last but not least, let’s talk about the champagne flute shape. Your overall impression is, thanks to your broader shoulders, sporty. To avoid a look too masculine, it’s important to underline your female attributes and enhance your lean legs. Avoid styles that underline your shoulders, lay emphasis on your waist and enhance your hips. Bodyshape Champagne flute If you are a real sporting ace and your legs are (for your opinion) too muscular as well avoid skinny jeans, prefer looser variations of pants and stay away from to short skirts.   So, done with the overview of the five main body types and some of their most common variations! Next Monday it’s time for your total individual proportions. You can already search for a tape measure, a long straight stick like a broomstick and make an appointment with a friend.   Looking forward Johara
