Fashion inspirations from movies!

Last week we spoke about where to find styling inspirations and such things like movies, musicians, icons etc. are a great resource to get ideas from. Today we speak about inspirations from movies and which looks are worth to remember. As I said movies are such a great resource because the clothes the characters are wearing are so well thought out. Every item, every detail, every other so carelessly worn piece is there to underline the character, to illustrate it to the audience.

“Costume, hair, and make up can tell you instantly

or at least give you a larger perception of

who a character is.”

Colleen Atwood

That’s a great point of view, we can learn from. Really think through your choice of clothes, do they fit my personality and who I am or better do they fit to who I want to be?! Which movie character represents your personality best, what styles she/he wore did you like? Adopt one or two items and make them your own by styling them your way. Remember Uma Thurman hitting the dance floor with John Travolta like no other, barefoot with a white shirt, black capri pants and a black wig. Didn’t you think in that moment that this white shirt is the most adorable piece of clothes on planet earth. But first tell me you saw “Pulp Fiction”! Of course that Girl has her problems, but she pulls off a white shirt like no other! Or the ten seconds in “Scarface”, when Michelle Pfeiffer comes down the stairs in a glass elevator wearing a backless, long aqua dress, wasn’t that breathtaking?! Even though beautiful Fay Dunaway in “The Thomas Crown Affair” in an amazing pleated halter mini dress, fake eyelashes and perfect manicured nails, playing chess with Steve McQueen… Scenes like that are what designer and editors return to, again and again for inspirations and ideas. Lot’s of runway collections and editorials started on the big screen. Fore example: Gucci in fall 2008 based their whole collection on Michelle Pfeiffer as Elvira in “Scarface”. Here is a little list of often recited and inspiring movies out of the book from Nina Garcia „The little black book of style“, if you want to see more have a look in that amazing book!   „Bringing Up Baby“ from 1938, set in NY in the 1930s Story: Katharine Hepburn is playing a bored society girl which ensnares                                      paleaontologist, played by Cary Grant and the two have a series of                                 misadventures with her pet leopard baby.                                                         Style: masculine/feminine                                                                                            Watch for: her signature wide pants, which she debuted in that movie.
