Vieles in unserer heutigen Zeit lebt vom Reiz der Gegensätzlichkeit. Es fällt auf, dass auch die Kombination aus Historie und Modernität immer wieder Reibung schafft. Ein Umstand, der gut ist, denn Reibung erzeugt Wärme und Beweglichkeit. Dies alles sind ganz wichtige Dinge, die vor allem Kreativität und Wachstum hervorbringen. Im heutigen Beitrag der Rubrik „Shops of the week“ geht es um ein berühmtes Berliner Gebäude am Zoo, welches sich zu seinen Glanzzeiten zu einem regelrechten Tempel der Modewelt entwickelt hatte. Der Blick in die Vergangenheit zeigt das Objekt BIKINI BERLIN zu einer Zeit, als es noch eine ganze Ladenzeile mit außergewöhnlichen Shops besaß.
Viele namhafte Modelabel hatten im BIKINI BERLIN ihren Hauptsitz. Jedoch wie so viele Dinge, die im Mainstream allzu schnell an individueller Ausstrahlung und Anziehungskraft verlieren, geriet auch BIKINI BERLIN etwas auf die Außenbahn des Interesses, nicht zuletzt deshalb, weil die gesamte Gegend um den Bahnhof Zoo mehr und mehr Glanz eingebüßt hat. Aber das soll nun alles bald anders werden! Sowohl der Bahnhof als auch seine unmittelbare Umgebung sollen wieder aufgewertet werden. Erster Anstoß dafür ist der begonnene Bau des Waldorf Astoria. Auch das Gebäude von BIKINI BERLIN wurde im Zuge der Maßnahmen abgerissen und neu erbaut.
Ein interessanter Aspekt dabei: In Kooperation mit Labels, die sich später dort einmieten wollen, wurde als Kooperationsprojekt die „Temoprary Shopping Gallery“ zum Leben erweckt. Ein Komplex aus mehreren Containern, die im Vorraum der Baustelle aufgestellt wurden bietet die Möglichkeit zum Shoppen. Viele Limitierte Editionen, die exclusiv von den Labels für Berlin designet wurden, sind im Programm, darunter so namhafte wie Lala Berlin , EST.IN HELL oder Borgmann.

Theme of today’s report in „shops of the week“ is a popular building at Berlin Zoo that – in it’s glory days – developed to a temple of the fashion scene. Looking back to the past you can see the BIKINI BERLIN in a time when it had a whole store line of extraordinary shops. Many well-known labels had their main seat in BIKINI BERLIN. But like most things that loose their atractivity and individual presence within the mainstream too fast nowadays – the BIKINI BERLIN lost people’s interest soon. Last but not least because the whole area around Bahnhof Zoo lost its gold and glory.
But that is now about to be changed. The Bahnhof Zoo and its immediate surrounding shall be improved by quality. First step of this process is building the „Waldorf Astoria“ which already began. The BIKINI BERLIN was torn down an rebuilt in the course of the proceedings as well. An interesting aspect at this point is that there is cooperation project with labels settling down here in the future that founded a temporary shopping gallery. A complex of several vessels lined up in front of the building site and giving the possibility to go shopping. A lot of limited editions exclusively designed for Berlin are present including well named labels like Lala Berlin, EST.IN HELL and Borgmann.
